Blueberry Caramel Skillet Cobbler

There is finally a local CSA in our downtown NYC neighborhood and, despite the fact that our girls will be at sleepaway camp for half the summer, I joined. I got a fruit, vegetable and juice 12-week summer share. The vegetables can throw me for a loop (garlic snapes and Harukei turnips and [unshelled] fava beans, anyone?).  The past few weeks, I’ve made collard greens, roasted kale, beets & fava salad. CRAZY STUFF that I never thought I’d ever make. But that’s what a CSA is all about: the surprise of the bounty and then, “OH MY GOD, WHAT THE…

Chia Seed Pudding Recipe

The first time I heard of chia seed pudding, I was at the local Le Pain Quotidien. It was presented in this cute little mason jar with berries and was incredibly delicious and incredibly expensive. I can’t remember how much it was — I think it was either $6 or $9 — but I remember that it was more than I would’ve wanted to pay. I researched recipes online and found Giada De Laurentiis recipe from Food Network and played around with it until I found a recipe that I enjoyed. It is SO incredibly easy and quick and something…

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

I was introduced to pumpkin chocolate chip cookies by a designer when I worked at Banana Republic’s corporate offices six years ago. The cookies were these perfect mounds of cake-like pumpkin chocolate goodness. I must have had 10 cookies that afternoon. Ever since then, every fall, I make a couple dozen to kick off the Thanksgiving baking season. They are always a big hit, especially if you enjoy cake-like cookies. I have lost the designer’s recipe, but have found one on AllRecipes.com that produces the same result. It’s actually called “Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies III”. I haven’t explored version I…

How to Make the Flakiest Pie Crust Ever!

As soon as the weather got cooler, we took a drive out to Westchester county to the Wilkens Fruit and Fir Farm for a morning of apple picking. The folks over at Chevrolet loaned us an apple red Chevy Traverse for our trip to the farm, as well as an apple pie cooking class in Brooklyn! We love the Traverse, since it was also the car we rode on our trip to Hershey Park last year. It was the start of the leaves turning the beautiful bright orange, yellow and red colors. At the time the trees in New York…

Dessert Recipe: Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cream Cheese Cupcakes

This past weekend, we went to my good friend’s husband’s 50th Birthday party. First of all, I can’t believe I have friends who are married to 50-year olds, but I guess that goes with the territory of leaving being in my 40’s. The party was fabulous. I was able to see so many old friends and co-workers, talk and laugh about our good ol’ corporate marketing days. Loved seeing them and reminiscing, but the best part of the evening? The DESSERT. They passed out these amazing mini chocolate chocolate chip cream cheese cupcakes which were TO. DIE. FOR. I had…
