Chevy Traverse Review During Chevrolet Appreciation Day

Last weekend was Chevrolet Appreciation Day at Hershey Park in Pennsylvania where they celebrate Chevy family loyalty past, present and future.

The Triple Threat Mommy family was one of ten blogging families who were treated to a sweet family weekend in Hershey, Pennsylvania where we got to test drive the Chevrolet Traverse for the weekend. As a car-less New York City family (the Metrocard is our keys to our urban car, the subway) this was truly a treat. The Traverse is a cross-over utility vehicle which means it is a cross between an SUV and a mini-van. The result is a family car with style, space and safety.

With two kids, and two adults going away only for the weekend, you would think that there wouldn’t be a ton of stuff…right?

We had two car seats; three duffel bags full of clothes for everyone; each of the girls had their own back-pack full of entertainment such as doodle pads, markers, dolls, and DVD’s; a bag of non-refrigerated snacks; a bag of cold snacks; and a bag of miscellaneous stuff that didn’t fit in any of the previous categories. I was praying it would fit in the trunk of the Traverse.

Do you think it all fit??

YES!  As you can see from our smiling faces, we all had ample room – especially with three — count ‘em THREE — rows!

The Chevy Traverse gets a “thumbs up” for the rear-seat entertainment system from all of us. The girls were able to watch their DVD’s with wireless earphones (which means, Michael and I did NOT have to listen to Cinderella over and over again.) Michael and I had uninterrupted conversation for at least an hour and we were able to listen to our own music on Sirius XM Channels, Outlaw Country for him and 1st Wave for me.

A welcome surprise was when we were traveling along to the NJ Turnpike and we were alerted by the front panel screen for an “Approaching Traffic Event” which told us where the traffic was, how long it would be for and the cause of the traffic.

The other thing that Michael pointed out was that we never had to adjust the sound for the radio. If we had the windows open or closed, air-condition on or off, the radio sound adjusted itself. It’s the little things that we really started to appreciate about the Chevy Traverse.

The Chevy Traverse also has six airbags, a rearview camera system and OnStar which are standard on all Traverse models, which made us feel like we were in good hands.

We safely arrived in Hershey, Pennsylvania at the Hilton Garden Inn where we received a basketful of Hershey goodies, fruit and dinner. That night, we took the Traverse to enjoy Chocolate World and Preview Night at Hershey Park (tips and tricks on how to enjoy Hershey Park will be an up-coming post!)

At breakfast the next day, we met Chevy’s aerodynamic engineer, Suzanne Cody. Suzanne is a rocket  a rocket scientist by education, a mother of two, and a popular roller derby skater known by fans as “Shovey Camaro,” named after Chevrolet’s Camaro sports sedan. As an aerodynamic engineer, her job was to shape every part of a vehicle to reduce wind drag and helps it achieve maximum fuel economy. For example, she was part of the aerodynamic team which helped the Chevy Malibu to have the drag co-efficient as the Camaro!
We were excited to go to Hershey Park to test drive Chevrolet’s vehicles. Since we live in New York City, a car that can fit a small New York City parking spot is important. We test drove the Chevy Sonic (which starts at $14,000 BTW), although small, can easily fit Michael — who is 6’3″ comfortably in the back seat — or two car seats and had great trunk space.

At the end of our trip, the girls weren’t sad to leave. They were excited to jump back in the car for the three-hour trip home. With all the entertainment and space, everyone was excited to be back in the car. To see how much room there could be in the trunk, we put down the third row and put our bags in the back and were super-surprised to see how much room we had left.

Since we had a car, we decided to visit my parents in New Jersey before we headed back to the New York City. We were able to show off the car…and do some big bulk grocery shopping. While the girls stayed with my parents, Michael and I hit the wide-aisle grocery store like two kids in a candy store. We bought a TON of groceries knowing that we could save money and bring it back to our New York City apartment all in one shot. As you can see, all of our groceries and weekend bags fit nicely in the trunk.

This Chevrolet Appreciation Day road trip really opened our New York City eyes and minds to the idea of buying a family vehicle that makes family road tripping easy, safe and enjoyable.
