The girls and I attended the Ralph Lauren Fall 2014 Childrens Fashion Show at the New York Public Library. The evening was not a normal fashion show. The evening was hosted by actress Uma Thurman and featured a live performance by the cast members of Broadway’s Tony Award-winning Matilda the Musical, based on the iconic Roald Dahl children’s novel. The runway show helped Ralph Lauren kick off a literacy program committed to boosting literacy for children in need by providing access to books.
The Ralph Lauren Fall 2014 childrens fashion show featured 61 looks for boys and girls that were all age appropriate and wearable, from this mom’s point of view. Two celebrity models were Egypt, Alicia’ Keys’ son and Angela, Li Xiang’s daughter. Ralph Lauren has also tapped singer Madison Beer to attend as the #RLKids ambassador talking to guests about the importance of reading as well as picking her favorite looks from the show.
The collection featured beautiful, traditional tartans, fairisles, fitted wool and velvet jackets, taffeta dresses and trapper hats mixed in with urban looks with bright colors, leather pieces and skull & crossbones which resonated with both of my girls. Silhouettes were perfect for the fall back-to-school season with polos, rugbys, skirts, dresses cardigans and button-downs. All perfectly age-appropriate and wearable from this mom’s point-of-view.
After the show, all guests were treated to an exclusive performance from the cast of Matilda the Musical.
And of course the night wouldn’t have been completely without sweets from Dylan’s Candy Bar.
Besides the show and the candy, the best part of the evening was going home with Roald Dahl’s book Matilda, and being able to read it on the subway ride home. Fashionably, of course.
