New Food Trucks at Governors Island

Lower Manhattan is bursting with more food options than ever before. During the summer, we are big fans of heading over to Governor’s Island for a family bike ride, some arts & crafts and eating. This year, Governor’s Island has taken outdoor dining to the next level with seven new food trucks and tents.

In 2012, Governors Island started a multi-year $260 million transformation with over 100 acres of parks and public spaces. Just in time for the summer, construction has finally been completed on the first 30 acres. Every Saturday and Sunday this summer through September 28th the gourmet trucks and tents will be at Kings Avenue with a plaza with communal seating and public art.

The New Food Trucks at Governors Island are:

Sweet Chili: The brainchild of Top Chef  finalist Lisa Fernades serves gourmet Thai and Vietnamese fusion. Signature dishes are the miso glazed silken tofu and green papaya salad

Mayhem & Stout: This award-winning truck has amazing sandwiches with braised meats like pulled pork with black cherry mustard and roasted kale. They also have tasty sides and creative sauces.

Carl’s Steaks: The iconic NYC brand in Yankee Stadium has authentic Philly cheesestakes, chicken steaks and vegetarian sandwiches.

Mike N’Willies: Mexican BBQ fusion fare with tacos, sliders with homemade sauces.

DISO’s Italian Sandwich Society: this famous food truck offers fresh sandwiches with fine, imported Italian meats and cheeses sourced from the famous DiPalos in Little Italy.

El Paso Taco: The mobile counterpart to the popular UES restaurant specializes in traditional tacos with inventive twists like the short rib taco braised in Negra Modelo beer served with watermelon pico de gallo.

Momos & Buns: Known for their hand rolled Tibetan dumplings and authentic baos sandwiches like the BBQ beef brisket with sriracha mayo and gojuchang tofu with homemade kimchi.

The food trucks will be open 10:30am – 7pm, rain or shine through September 28th.
