Looking Back, Looking Forward. And Turning 40

Goodbye 2012. Hello 2013.

With that, I’m saying Goodbye to my 30′s and Hello to my 40′s. It’s interesting to have a January birthday:  it’s the beginning of a new year and I get to celebrate a birthday which inevitably makes me reflect on the past while looking forward to the future — and in this case, celebrate The Big 4-0 as well.

Fact: I am excited to turning forty. It’s obviously a milestone in my life, as it is for most people when they reach this age.  I look at myself and think, “I don’t feel forty. I don’t look forty.” At least I don’t think I look forty, but what does forty even look like? I guess I’m thinking of what forty looked like when I was 22-years old — and it doesn’t feel or look like the way I feel or look. Does that make sense?

Bottom line:  I feel great and I feel really good where I am in my life. And I’m sure as hell excited to celebrate my 40th with my best oldest friends and family. So, let’s do the checklist:

My Three Blessings

Good Health? Check.

Lots of Love? Check.

Amazing Family? Check.

Fulfilling Career? Check.

Like any birthday I always like to look back on the past year’s accomplishments. Sort of like a pat-on-the-back birthday present to me. Last year, I decided to open my own social media and marketing consulting business called Triple Threat Media LLC. This allowed me to continue my passion for marketing and social media, and have the flexibility to see my daughters a bit more by working from home part of the time.

The flexibility in my work life has given me time to volunteer at my girls’ school and be able to pick them up sometimes at their after-school activities. I’m running around a lot more, but I love it.  I love that each day is different: I can go from one client to another, to a swim team practice, to a blogger event and to a fashion show all in one day. I thrive on this.

What would I hope for in 2013? Well, like everybody, I’d like to get healthier. And not just for me, but for my husband, for my girls. I want to live for a very long time, and not just be alive, but to LIVE.

So glad that my girls have grown to love skiing.
More Traveling. Now that our girls are older, traveling has become a focus in our lives. And traveling can be a short weekend trip or a big international trip. We’ve found that traveling brings our family closer and gives our girls a chance to truly bond away from the hustle and bustle of the city and all of their daily activities. In the past 12 months, we have traveled to Paris, Tucson, Arizona, Florida, Washington D.C., Long Beach Island, The Poconos, Philadelphia, and then back Tucson and Flagstaff, Arizona. We can’t wait to see where 2013 will bring us.

Family trip to Paris.

With a ton of going on, the one thing that I need to work on is being more present in whatever I am doing and whomever I am with. It’s hard being in social media to do this because there’s always the pressure to tweet, Instagram and Facebook, but I need to find the right balance. {If anyone has any tips to share, I’d appreciate it!}

Of course, continuing to grow Triple Threat Media and Triple Threat Mommy is a big goal for 2013. Of course I’d love to gain more clients and work on more projects, but really it’s more about being able to learn about the ever-changing-face of social media and be able to give more  ROI to my clients.

My blog, Triple Threat Mommy, is my creative outlet. It’s a way to practice what I preach professionally. I only hope to have more opportunities to meet people who have the same excitement for social media as I do, forge deeper relationships with the brands I work with, and partner with more brands and public relations companies that I feel are the right fit for me and Triple Threat Mommy. With a new year, comes a new look and Triple Threat Mommy will be launching a cleaner and focused design in the next several weeks (so exciting!!).
