Johnson & Johnson Celebrates the 125th Anniversary of the First Aid Kit

This past week, I was invited, along with other bloggers and press to Johnson & Johnson’s celebration of the 125 Anniversary of the First Aid Kit. Did you know that the first commercial First Aid Kit was originally designed to help railroad workers care for the wounds and injuries they received from laying railroad track back in 1888?  And obviously, since then, the First Aid Kit is now just a part of our lives:  in our medicine cabinets, our emergency go-bags, at our offices and in our cars.

To celebrate the anniversary, Johnson & Johnson has launched a new campaign, called Everyday Care, to help educate consumers about the importance of first aid preparedness.

The Everyday Care campaign partners with Safe Kids Worldwide, and celeb mom, Maggie Gyllenhaal to spread the word on preventing childhood injuries by helping educate children and their caretakers about sports safety.

How can you easily support The Everyday Care campaign and get your very own free first aid bag? Just go to your local CVS Store and create your own custom First Aid Kit. All you have to do is buy three or more first aid products—such as BAND-AID® Brand Adhesive Bandages, NEOSPORIN® products, Johnson & Johnson RED CROSS® Brand First Aid products and BENADRYL® Anti-itch Topicals products—and you will receive a free first aid bag. For every bag redeemed, the Topical Healthcare Brands will donate to Safe Kids Worldwide*.

At The Everyday Care Launch campaign, I perused a mini-museum of vintage Johnson & Johnson advertising from the early 20th century as well as vintage first aid kids. It’s amazing how they have changed throughout the years, yet have kept the same purpose: to help those who need healing.

At the event, Johnson & Johnson had a mini-shop where I was invited to create my very own First Aid Kit. Our girls are very active so I stocked up on NEOSPORIN® NEO GO TO® and BENADRYL® ITCH STOPPING SPRAY as well as many sizes of BAND-AID® BRAND Adhesive bandages featuring Monsters University! We’ll also be traveling a lot this summer doing various road trips and going to Turks & Caicos, so I know that I’ll be prepared on these trips with our very own First Aid Kit.

Do you have a first aid kit? What’s in it?

To help consumers learn more about the importance of first aid and be better prepared for minor injuries, the Topical Healthcare Brands have created a new microsite that offers important tips as well as valuable coupons for products.
