Our girls have grown up in the theatre, music, and acting world. Their grandmother is an actress and their grandfather is a clarinetist and professor of music. They’ve had the opportunity to see plays and musical concerts that normal 8 and 4 year olds don’t get to see such as Sunday in the Park with George, Follies as well as wind quintet performances. Even though they have these opportunities, we always offer them the chance to watch theatre shows that are more age appropriate. Our first entrance into kid-friendly theatre was several years ago when we watched a production of Max and Ruby at the Lucille Lortel Theatre and we’ve been hooked since: kid-friendly shows that last ONE HOUR?!! That’s better than sliced, organic, whole wheat bread!
Freckleface the Musical, the off-Broadway show, is based on Julianne Moore’s best-selling kids book, “Freckleface Strawberry”. Just like the book, the show teaches lessons about not bullying and accepting who you are – and who your classmates are – something that The Hubby and I continue to instill in our kids. In NYC, there’s a lot of diversity, and we all need to be accepting of all of our differences.
So, when MamaDrama offered us tickets to see the show, we of course said YES! The show is obviously very kid-friendly, with the actors playing seven-year olds. The story line is very easy to follow and the actors are all crazy talented: singing, dancing and acting. Triple Threat indeed. The set is amazing. I love how smaller shows like this are able to transform the stage from one scene to the next. And to boot, the fact that the show is one-hour long, your kids don’t get bored!
The girls were super excited. To refresh their memories, the girls read the book on the subway.
Afterwards, the girls were super psyched to meet the cast! O had stars in her eyes!!
